A photoshoot in the garden

A beautiful end of season flower harvest. Photographed by Melissa Milne Photography.

I was so blessed to get some photos taken by the very talented Melissa Milne Photography. We spent some time in the garden collecting and arranging the final flowers of the season, and visiting the cows in the field. Melissa specializes not only in film photography, but in creating digital images that imitate a film feel. Take a look at what we created, we hope it can serve as an inspiration for you.

ETHEREAL SPRING 99 ROWS EDITORIAL

Working on my first ever editorial piece with this amazing team was so incredibly fun.

The flowers were chosen to give a whimsical garden feel, bringing lots of life to this already stunning venue. The blooms included a combination of larkspur, statice, garden roses, ruscus, ferns, curly willow, babies breath, hydrangeas, Queen Annes Lace, stock, and astrantia. The free standing arch added to the beautiful backdrop of the Okanagan landscape which was framed perfectly by the glass greenhouse.

The Best Wedding Flower Combinations for Every Season

No matter the season, picking flowers that are in season, and bring your vision to life is important.

Using Local Florals and Greenery on Vancouver Island

As a florist on Vancouver Island, we understand the importance of choosing wedding flowers that not only look beautiful but also reflect the natural beauty of the island. That's why we're excited to share our guide to the best wedding flower combinations for every season, featuring local blooms that are sure to make your big day unforgettable.

Spring:

Spring is a season of new beginnings and fresh starts. For a spring wedding on Vancouver Island, we recommend using locally-sourced tulips, daffodils, and cherry blossoms, which bloom in abundance during this time of year. In the later spring ranunculus will start popping up and make a beautiful statement flower. Pair these delicate blooms with fresh greenery like ferns, salal, and jasmine for a whimsical natural look

Summer:

Summer is a time for sunshine and warmth, and the perfect time to incorporate bright and bold colors into your wedding florals. For a summer wedding on Vancouver Island, consider using locally-sourced dahlias, peonies, sunflowers and hydrangeas. Other beautiful blooms you can find and use include sweet peas, yarrow, zinnias, cosmos, and snapdragons. Later summer using things like blackberry and garden herbs add fun and different textures to your florals.

Fall:

Fall is a season of rich colors and warm textures, and the perfect time to incorporate the beauty of autumn into your wedding florals. For a fall wedding on Vancouver Island, consider using locally-sourced roses, sunflowers, dahlias and zinnias. These flowers not only come in rich autumnal hues but also thrive into the cooler weather.  Pair them with seasonal greenery like maple leaves and twigs for a rustic and cozy look.

Fall Wedding Bouquet

Winter:

Winter is a time for snow and ice, and the perfect time to incorporate the beauty of winter into your wedding florals. For a winter wedding on Vancouver Island, consider using locally-sourced roses, hellebores, and poppies. Pair them with winter greenery like pine branches and fir cones for a magical and enchanting look.
